The Zimbabwe School Examinations Council Board and Management (ZIMSEC) released the 2023 Grade Seven Examinations Results were an increase of 13.19 percent on the passrate of children with special needs was noted as compared to the previous year.

A total of 357 special needs candidates sat for a range of 5 to 6 subjects.

194 of them wrote 6 subjects, whereas 113 candidates with Hard of Hearing sat for 5 subjects yielding and overall pass rate of 42.99 percent for all learners with special needs.

There have been a commendable increase of 34 candidates with special needs from 323 with a pass rate of 29.8 percent who sat for the same examination in 2022.

193 520 female students and 179 083 males adding upto 372 603 candidates sat for this year’s Grade Seven Examination.

The pass rate of female candidates is 49.56 percent to 41.21 percent for male candidates.

A total of 372 603 candidates sat for one to six subjects during the 2023 Grade 7 Examination, an increase compared to 343 169 who wrote the examination the previous year as revealed by ZIMSEC.

A 5.48 percent increase have been noted from 45.57 percent pass rate recorded this year as compared to 40.09 percent candidate performance recorded in 2022.

ZIMSEC attributes the increase in the overall pass rate to the return to normal school calendar after the disruptions caused by COVID 19 pandemic and also to the various interventions by the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education in terms of teaching and learning.

There has been a steady increase in the candidature and performance of Grade 7 candidates since 2021.

Candidature steadily rose from 325 573in 2021 to 372 603 in 2023 as revealed by ZIMSEC.

The pass rate also rose from 41.13 percent in 2021 to 45.57 percent in 2023.

Heads of Schools have been advised to collect the results from their respective ZIMSEC Regional offices as from Monday the 4th of December 2023.
