Blessing Hungwe’s name resonates in Zimbabwe’s artistic circles as a talented playwright, actor, and director. However, his creative pursuits are only half the story.
This versatile individual has evolved into a dedicated development communication specialist, leveraging his skills to craft impactful documentaries for different organisations thus, inspiring positive change.
For the record, Hungwe has worked with the following organisations; FAO , WHH , World Vision , The World Bank (Zimbabwe), ActionAid, Practical Action (Zimbabwe) among several others.
From the Stage to the Screen
Hungwe’s rise in the arts sector can be traced to 2007 when he travelled to America on a charity’s apprenticeship programme to join two Mexican actors from a Developing Artists project and perform in a professional American production of Ovid’s Tales of Metamorphoses at Dartmouth College, New Hampshire.
Whilst in America Blessing also took part in a staged reading of Crocodile at Northern Stage starring actress Lisa Harrow.
He transformed himself into playwriting, penning thought-provoking works like “Sinners?”, “Burn Mukwerekwere Burn” and “Homecoming” among several others.
He also worked as a head writer for “Studio 263” and co-wrote “Ghetto Fellas” and “New Dawn,” all of which were shown on ZBCTV.
Hungwe holds award in; Jurist Zimbabwe International Film Festival Trust Festival [2012] and Jurist International Images Film Festival for Women [2010-2013].
His talent soon led him to acting and directing, showcasing his versatility in the performing arts. Yet, he didn’t stop there.
Academic Excellence
Hungwe’s thirsty for knowledge drove him to pursue higher education.
He earned a prestigious second-place finish Undergrad Honours Media and Society Studies Degree, followed by a master’s degree in Development Studies all with Midlands State University, where he received the book prize.
This academic excellence laid the foundation for his future endeavors.
Development Communication: A New Chapter
Hungwe’s passion for storytelling and community development led him to development communication.
Besides Development Consultancy, he produces documentaries for various NGOs, amplifying the voices of marginalised communities and shedding light on critical social issues.
