ALBERT NYAMBARA WAS ARRESTED FOR UNAUTHORISED DEALING IN CURRENCY AS DEFINED IN SECTION 5(1)(a)(ii) OF THE EXCHANGE CONTROL ACT CHAPTER 22:05 ARW SECTION 4 OF THE EXCHANGE CONTROL REGULATIONS OF 1996 (SI 109/96) AND SECTION 2 OF EXCHANGE CONTROL (AMMENDMENT REGULATIONS) 2017 (05) S.I 122A/2017 IN MARONDERA RECENTLY. 

In a Zimbabwe Republic Police internal communication, the accused person, Nyambara aged 37 years working at Waterloo Primary school, Macheke and employed by Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education was arrested for unauthorised dealing in currency.

On the 10th of May 2024 and in N Richards Supermarket, Marondera, detectives from CID Commercial Crime Division Northern Regions when on surveillance spotting the illegal dealers of currency. Detective were equipped with trap money US $10-00 notes with following serial numbers NK 21632316A, PE 44568574A, PB 82769013A, PB 53368068C, PE 87173833A, PC 84535380A, and PB 24653407D. 

Accused person approaching the detectives who were pushing a trolley loaded with various groceries which include tiggle naks assorted 50X24 grams, willards things 8X150 grams, baby soft tissues rolls white 2 ply 1X18, 2 Quire A4 papyrus FM Counter book X 1, Top Chef premium white rice 2X5 KG, Mazoe Orange Crush 6X2 Litres, Fizzi Cream-Soda 6X2 litres.

On approaching detectives, the accused person indicated that he had some Zig in Cabs Bank account and intended to swipe in exchange for US dollars at a offered rate of Zig 14.11 per US $1-00 and in addition he offered US $5-00 as a token of appreciation.

Accused person then gave detectives his Cabs Bank card serial number 588925071472080 and he supplied the pin number as 2011. Accused person then accompanied detectives to the till where they swiped for the groceries and he proceed outside the shop.

The accused person, Nyambara waited outside the shop and was given a receipt of the groceries worth Zig 999.07. Upon receiving the receipt, accused person calculated the equivalent in US dollars and he said amounted to US $70-80.

Detectives then gave the trap money to the accused person and subsequently arrested.

Nyambara was arrested and brought to CID Marondera station for further management.

Cabs bank Card used to purchase groceries, N Richard supermarket receipt, and various purchased groceries as well as trap money were brought to the station as exhibit and are still held at CID Marondera station.

The accused person was sent to Marondera Magistrate Court on initial vetting and the accused was released on summons by Public Prosecutor Reward Sitotombe. Accused was legally represented by Makwanya Godfrey of Sakala associates.

The matter is investigated under ZRP Marondera Central CR 32/05/24, CID Marondera DR 35/05/24 and CRB 188/24. Your Office will be advised of any new developments.
