A Mabelreign armed robbery incident has been recorded after three armed suspects attacked police officers on patrol, leaving them injured and escaping with a service rifle and a vehicle.
According to internal police communication, the attack occurred around 0020 hours along Northolt Road near Devaris Makaharis School in Mabelreign.
Inspector Magidi, Constable Nyamushamba, and Constable Chihanga were on routine patrol when they were ambushed while briefly stationary and observing their surroundings.
Police details indicate that three unidentified male adults, all wearing black balaclavas, suddenly appeared in front of the vehicle armed with a claw bar and a high-powered torch.
Inspector Magidi instructed Constable Chihanga to open fire, but the G3 rifle jammed as he attempted to shoot through the open window.
The suspects immediately advanced, surrounded the vehicle, and smashed the windscreen using a claw bar.
Constable Nyamushamba managed to escape through the driver’s door but sustained a shoulder injury after being struck with a claw bar.
Inspector Magidi attempted to disembark and engage the attackers but was hit on the forehead with a brick and fell to the ground.
Constable Chihanga initially resisted, striking one of the suspects with the butt of the G3 rifle as he exited the vehicle.
However, he was overpowered after being struck twice on the head with a claw bar.
The suspects seized the G3 rifle, serial number 5567, loaded with seven rounds, before driving away in the officers’ white Nissan Tilda (registration number ACS 1584).
Two mobile phones, a Samsung A15 and a Tecno 10 were also stolen during the attack.
The injured officers were taken to Parirenyatwa Hospital where they are reported to be in stable condition.
Observations at the scene included broken glass scattered on the ground, with the area described as dimly lit and relying mainly on nearby school lighting.
The scene was attended by officers from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Police Support Unit (PSU), and the Canine Section.
The case is recorded under RRB Number 6701221 at Mabelreign Police Station, and investigations into the Mabelreign armed robbery are ongoing.
Police are appealing to members of the public for information that may assist in identifying and apprehending the suspects.
